About Southern Inidan dance, Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam is a classical dance that originated in Southern India. Bhava means feeling and emotions; Raga means melodies; Tala stands for rhythm; Natya stands for dance. In the past, this dance was performed by Devadasis dancers in Hindu temples; it later became a performing art. This dance is based on Hindu mythology; dancers must go through rigorous physical training to master the techniques. Dancers must also undergo special training to learn facial expressions for the performance.
