Women shout their dissent from a Tehran rooftop on 24 June, following Iran’s disputed presidential election. The result of the 12 June ballot proclaimed an overwhelming victory for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, but there were allegations of vote-rigging. In the weeks following the election, violent demonstrations took place in the streets. At night, people continued their protest from windows, balconies and rooftops. Their cries echoed similar nighttime protests, last heard during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the Shah.
